Waikoloa Beach Resort Heats Up with Hawaiian Cultural Events for Fall

07/06/2008

WAIKOLOA, HAWAI‘I – Waikoloa Beach Resort on Hawai‘i Island’s beautiful Kohala Coast, announced today two new signature events — Waikoloa Koi Day and Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Weekend of Hawaiian Culture. The events aim to share Hawai‘i’s unique culture and history with resort guests and visitors, and give travelers the perfect reason to escape to Hawai‘i Island this fall.

Waikoloa Beach Resort hosts the following events from August through September 2008:

Waikoloa Koi Day: August 23, 2008

KOI take center stage at Waikoloa Beach Resort’s first annual “Waikoloa Koi Day” event. The majestic fish – well-known for their bright colors and patterns — will be on display at The Studio at Queens’ MarketPlace from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 23. Visitors and guests are invited to visit Hawai‘i Koi Farm owner, Gary DeCoito’s award-winning koi collection, and also learn about the care and history behind the beautiful fish. In addition, shoppers can also enjoy Waikoloa Beach Resort’s serene landscape areas with cascading ponds filled with koi, located at both the Queens’ MarketPlace and Kings’ Shops. In Hawai‘i the fish have strong ties to local culture, and are often seen as a symbol of beauty and grace. Koi flags are also a common sight in neighborhoods and homes during the Japan “Boy’s Day” holiday.

Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Weekend of Hawaiian Culture: September 5 – 7, 2008

Immerse yourself in a unique cultural experience with Waikoloa Beach Resort’s “Weekend of Hawaiian Culture,” Friday through Sunday, September 5 – 7. This year’s event will be held in conjunction with the Hawai‘i Island Festival – 30 Days of Aloha – with highlights including Hawaiian arts and crafts, performances by local hula halau, Hawaiian entertainment, the Ms. Aloha Nui Pageant, the popular Kindy Sproat Falsetto Contest, as well as, the highly-anticipated “Great Waikoloa Poke Contest.” In addition, no one will want to miss the resort’s Waikoloa Ho‘olaule‘a at Queens’ MarketPlace and Kings’ Shops. The entire weekend of festivities will be presided over by Hawai‘i’s “Ambassador of Aloha,” Danny Kaleikini.
