Waikoloa Beach Resort celebrates all day long with its “Family Fourth” extravaganza Saturday, July 4, 10am-8:30pm. The fun kicks off with a carnival action theme at Queens’ MarketPlace, runs through a Rubber Duckie Race at Kings’ Shops and ends with a blast—fireworks and fabulous music from the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific in concert at Waikoloa Bowl at Queens’ Gardens. Wow.
Non-stop family entertainment starts at 10:00 a.m. with carnival games, face painting, free cotton candy and popcorn and amazing instant animals and cartoon characters by “Balloon Monsoon.” At 11:00 a.m. the “Zoo Choo” train gets rolling and party bouncers open for business. (A small fee for the Zoo Choo rides and carnival games will be donated to the Food Basket/Hawaii Island Foodbank). In the afternoon, clap your hands or get up and dance to live music in the Queens’ MarketPlace Coronation Pavilion, featuring the Good Times Jazz Band, followed by the Salsa Latinos.
At 3:00, Kings’ Lake (Kings’ Shops) is the place to be for the starting gunshot of the annual wet, wild and wacky Rubber Duckie Race. Great prizes go to the winning ducks and 100% of the proceeds benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Association. To adopt your duck call Kings’ Shops, 886-8811.
Leading up to spectacular Fourth of July Fireworks, the explosive sounds of the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific in a special appearance at Waikoloa Bowl at Queens’ Gardens. The exciting concert, 6:00-8:30 p.m., culminates with America’s greatest patriotic music to accompany the aerial display. The Band is directed by Chief Master Sergeant Larry MacTaggart, who states “We proudly perform Hawaiian and island music along with a wide breadth of pop, rock, jazz combo and nearly everything in between.”
Officially, the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific is actually “tri-located,” with units in Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska, Yokota Air Base, Tokyo, Japan and Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu. It serves “...an area of responsibility which spans the Pacific Ocean from the Arctic Circle to Australia, and from the Polynesian Islands to the east coast of India, to include all of Southeast Asia.”
In Hawaii, the Band’s primary performing ensemble “Hana Hou” is a multi-talented group of singers and musicians who excite audiences young and old, with classic rock & roll, Grammy-winning country songs and Top 40 hits, as well as island favorites and American patriotic music. Hana Hou has performed for dignitaries through the Pacific and was featured at the movie world premiere of “Pearl Harbor” aboard the aircraft carrier, USS John Stennis.
The Band will also appear July 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, and return to Queens’ MarketPlace (Coronation Pavilion) July 7 at 4:00 p.m.
Waikoloa Bowl at Queens’ Gardens is proud to present the Band in a special first-ever Independence Day concert in the year of Hawaii Statehood’s 50th anniversary. Beach mats or chairs are welcome for open lawn seating, however coolers, alcoholic beverages and smoking are not permitted. Admission is free.
