OPENING EVENT AT KONA COFFEE CULTURAL FESTIVAL

KONA, HAWAII’S BIG ISLAND (October 2009) – Aqua farm tours, a local gourmet luncheon, a solar thermal energy farm and Kona coffee are highlighted at New Waves at NELHA on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as the kick-off event for the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival.

Visitors and locals alike will learn about aqua farms which utilize cold deep sea water technology and supply their seafood to markets in Hawaii, Japan and the mainland U.S. Following the aqua farm tours, the West Hawaii Culinary Arts team led by Chef Paul Heerlein, Chef Betty Saiki and James Lightner will present a lavish local gourmet buffet luncheon where NELHA grown seafood and 100% Kona coffee is showcased in the entrees and desserts at NELHA’s Gateway Center.

This year’s featured participants are: Big Island Abalone (ezo abalone), Kona Cold Lobsters (lobsters and crabs), Troutlodge Marine (butterfish), Kona Bluewater Farms (Kona Kampachi), Sapporo Beer, Ocean Vodka, Kona Coffee & Tea Co. and Better Brands (wine and cocktails).

Cost to attend is $100 per person. Ticket price includes educational aqua farm tours to Big Island Abalone, Kona Cold Lobsters, Troutlodge Marine and Kona Bluewater Farms, gourmet luncheon, beverages (wine, beer, deep sea vodka cocktails, soft drinks), a special tour to the new Sopogy Solar Thermal Energy plant and Hawaiian entertainment.
