Free Festivities Include Holiday Décor, Entertainment by Na Leo and Others

KAILUA VILLAGE, HAWAII’S BIG ISLAND – What is red, white and green all over? Kailua Village will soon be transformed for the holidays with the addition of Kailua Kalikimaka banners and holiday décor for the season.

The Kailua Village Business Improvement District is busy planning live entertainment each Friday evening at Emma’s Square beginning Friday, November 27 through Friday, December 18. Plans include a special gift to the community at Kokua Kailua on Sunday, December 13 with a live one-hour performance at 5:00 p.m. by Hawaii’s top female recording group, Na Leo.

At 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, Hibiscus Jam starts off the evening. At 5:30 p.m. a large Christmas tree will be lit at Emma’s Square (across from Hulihe’e Palace) to herald the season and welcome residents and visitors to discover Kailua Village and – to shop. Entertainment will follow at 6:30 p.m. by the Tiki Dolls.

On Friday, December 4, entertainment comes to Kailua Village courtesy of Kealakehe Intermediate School’s Ukulele & Chorus Group from 5 until 5:45 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. Irminsil takes the stage. Irminsil will also perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11.

Kailua Kalikimaka is not entirely about Fridays. Saturday, December 12 is the much anticipated 25th annual Kailua Village Community Christmas Parade presented by the Rotary Clubs of Kona. This year’s theme is Na Mele ‘O Kalikimaka (The Songs of Christmas). The parade begins at 5:00 p.m. at West Hawaii Today and meanders down Alii Drive to Coconut Grove. The Tiki Dolls will provide pre-parade entertainment at Emma’s Square beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, December 13 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. is the monthly Kokua Kailua – Hulihee Palace Concert Series and Village Stroll when Alii Drive becomes a welcoming pedestrian marketplace perfect for holiday shopping and enjoyment.

A free concert on the Hulihee Palace lawn begins at 4:00 p.m. Then, as a gift to the community and to really put the “happy” in everyone’s holidays, Kokua Kailua presents a special one-hour performance by multi-Na Hoku Hano Hano award winning trio Na Leo. Hawaii’s top female recording group will perform at 5:00 p.m. at Emma’s Square.

Performances once again by Hibiscus Jam at 5:00 p.m. and by the Tiki Dolls at 6:00 p.m. on December 18 bookend the beginning and ending Friday holiday entertainment schedule leading up to Christmas Friday, December 25.

Kailua Kalikimaka is an initiative of Kailua Village Business Improvement District with assistance from dedicated volunteers from County of Hawaii (installation of Christmas tree) and the musical groups who share their talents with the community for free in the spirit of the season. Residents are encouraged to come to Kailua Village, enjoy the entertainment, stroll Alii Drive, admire the holiday décor, and shop for unique and memorable holiday gifts for friends and family.
