In the classic island-style tradition of “work over, hang loose”, Hawaii’s music, cuisine, and Aloha Spirit will be showcased in Aloha Friday Pau Hana Concerts being held at Gordon Biersch restaurants in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Jose. Hawaii’s top entertainers will perform their musical magic as patrons enjoy a special menu of Hawaii-inspired cuisine and the opportunity to win trips to the Islands.

Take the family on a journey to the Hawaiian Islands through books, music and culture featuring some of Hawaii’s most celebrated musicians, authors, illustrators and cultural practitioners. The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau is partnering with Banana Patch Press of Kauai to bring the 2010 Explore Hawaii Book and Music Tour to the Bay Area and beyond. Enjoy readings by popular Island authors, while being serenaded with the music of Hawaii from award-winning recording artists. Their books and music span a wide range of subjects and styles, including Hawaii’s rich history, surfing, food, cultural values, and more. Join us as we introduce – and remind – you about what makes Hawaii such a special place.

At 6:00 p.m., the Aloha Friday Pau Hana concert series takes to the stage featuring Hawaiian music and the beautiful voice of Kauai’s Kelii Kanealii, along with a specially designed Hawai’i-themed menu that’s the perfect way to celebrate an Aloha Friday end to the workweek. Presented by the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.

HAWAII’S BIG ISLAND: EARTH, SEA AND SKY
The Tech Museum, 201 South Market Street

The Ahupuaa is an ancient Hawaiian land division system containing strips of land that extend from the mountain to the sea. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Imiloa Astronomy Center are bringing the concepts and values of the ahupuaa system to The Tech Museum. Utilizing elements of Hawaiian culture, language and history, the Hawaii program will actively engage you in understanding the connections between earth, sea and sky, our place in the cosmos and our influence upon the environment. Visitors will also be able to enjoy “From Earth to Universe,” an exhibit provided by NASA. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is Hawaii’s only World Heritage Site and home to Hawaii’s active volcanoes. The Imiloa Astronomy Center connects the rich traditions of Hawaiian culture with the groundbreaking astronomical research conducted at the summit of Maunakea.
